The Challenge

NOMS was looking to strengthen their senior leadership teams and improve decision-making, coordination (between teams), and overall performance. They needed a partner to design and test a structured programme that would enhance leadership capability and drive tangible improvements across the Prison Service, where the benefits clearly justified the investment.

The Solution

We partnered with the Prison Service to develop a structured approach to building leadership capability at individual, team, and establishment levels, beginning with the Prisons Senior Team. Our role was to act as a catalyst for change, equipping leaders with the tools to drive improvements themselves.

Key programme elements included:

  • 360-degree appraisal for each senior team member, followed by 1-to-1 coaching
  • Foundation workshop to enhance self-awareness, team dynamics, and performance improvement strategies
  • Improvement projects identified at each site, engaging all senior team members with ongoing team coaching
  • Targeted learning workshops on stakeholder management, business case development, and presentation skills
  • Final stakeholder presentation showcasing key learnings and improvements

I think the difference is that we have been made to cross self-imposed boundaries, so we are now able to support each other better. I can’t think of another event (programme or workshop) which would have caused us to cross those boundaries.
